In 2015, with the aim of expanding its circle of collaboration with France, Rencontres internationales de la photographie en Gaspésie entered into a partnership with Diaphane – Pôle photographique en Picardie. Thanks to that association, the Gaspé and Picardy regions will now be part of a vast network bringing together various international photographic events. The two organizations share an eagerness to carry out truly substantive work in their respective territories aimed at raising awareness of photography and increasing its exposure. They have pledged jointly to showcase artists’ work and the various artistic practices surrounding the photograph.
As part of this international partnership project, two Québec artists – Isabelle Hayeur and Benoit Aquin – will be hosted in Beauvais, in Picardy, France, for an artistic residency this fall. Also, these two artists will be exhibiting in Beauvais during the festival Les Photaumnales, from September 2015 to January 2016. Rencontres, meanwhile, welcomed French photographer Claudia Imbert this summer in the Gaspé for an artist residency, and the results will be shown in an exhibit in August and September.
This project has been possible thanks to the support of the Ministère des Relations internationales et de la Francophonie (Québec) and the Ministère des Affaires Etrangères et du Développement International (France).
