Wanted “ADOLAND_My bedroom is my territory”

Rencontres is launching an appeal to teenagers in the territory who would like to take part in a huge participatory project called ADOLAND_My bedroom is my territory, conducted by artist Caroline Hayeur. Ms. Hayeur will be doing an artist residency in the Gaspé from June 15 to July 6, 2015.

On the program for the young participants – francophone or anglophone – a cultural-mediation workshop on the subject of videos and logs, and a shooting session at which they will talk about themselves through their territory: their bedrooms! The project will culminate in the creation and webcast of a documentary consisting of 8 video-clips lasting 2 to 3 minutes each excerpted from the video shoots, as well as a photo exhibit of the pictures that will be taken all over the Gaspé.

Young people ready to have their pictures taken in their bedrooms by Caroline Hayeur and to take part in the making of a “mini-Web-docu-fiction-selfie” with an iPod can get in touch with the artist at carolinehayeur@mac.com or at 514 998-1383. Participation is voluntary (no fee will be paid) and parents’ permission is obligatory (a parental agreement must be signed at the photo session). A guide to the making of the webdocumentary is available to project participants.

Caroline Hayeur’s exhibit ADOLAND will be presented in Maria this summer as part of Rencontres, from mid-July to late September 2015. Carried out between 2011 and 2014, this series takes the teenager’s bedroom as its theater of operations. The artist set a temporal back-and-forth in motion through the adolescence – current or past – experienced by the 30 “models” she photographed. She will be adding pictures of eight Gaspesian teenagers’ bedrooms to her series this summer. Those new pictures will also be the subject of a webcast documentary, as mentioned above.
